What is Nova?¶
Nova is a place to play and build Roblox-style games in your browser. It keeps the feel of classic Roblox — the movement, the building, the old interfaces — while running on a modernised engine underneath.
The official platform is:
Use that site for your account, places, and play. There is no public engine download and no self-hosted server setup. Nova is not open source.
What you can do¶
- Play. Browse places and play in the browser without installing anything.
- Build. Create a place, write Luau scripts, and publish it to the platform.
- Bring your Roblox knowledge. Instances, services, scripts, remotes, and most gameplay code work the way you expect.
- Use the classic look. An optional Virtual Version setting can present the interface in the style of 2012–2016.
What is different from Roblox?¶
Nova is its own platform, not a Roblox client:
- Accounts, places, assets, and data live on www.novalabs.top.
- Roblox purchases, Roblox cloud services, and Roblox account data do not carry over.
- Some modern Roblox features are still being added. A few are intentionally not planned. The API reference and compatibility policy tell you which is which.
A quick tour¶
- Play: read the player guide, then open a place on the official platform.
- Create: start with the Roblox developer primer if you already write Luau.
- Look things up: use the API reference when you need a class, member, or status.
Is Nova open source?¶
The documentation is open source. The engine, the official backend, and the platform are proprietary.
That means:
- You can contribute guides, corrections, and API notes here.
- You cannot download or build the engine from this repository.
- Use only the official platform for accounts, clients, and Studio access.
Safety and privacy¶
Nova does not require age verification, face scans, or government ID uploads, and it does not segregate chat by age. See Safety for account and privacy advice.
Next steps¶
- Get started — account, browser, first play.
- Controls and settings — default controls and Virtual Version.
- Create on Nova — build or port a place.
- What Nova supports — compatibility, legacy support, and intentional non-goals.
