Studio and plugins

NovaStudio is the place editor. It is the place editor used by the official platform at www.novalabs.top for authentication, assets, the toolbox, and publishing.

What works

  • Open and save .rbxl/.rbxm in XML and modern binary form.
  • Insert and edit instances, properties, scripts, and GUIs.
  • Play Solo and local server play-testing.
  • Toolbox browsing and insertion.
  • Asset import and place publishing through website dialogs.
  • Script analysis and autocomplete using the Luau parser.
  • Edit-view rendering under the selected Virtual Version (materials, sky, name tags).
  • Plugin surface for core Studio plugins.

Publish and import flows

Publishing and importing use the website's dialogs rather than a native Studio flow. If the dialogs do not open:

  1. Confirm Studio is signed in to the same platform as the website.
  2. Confirm www.novalabs.top is reachable from the Studio machine.
  3. Check the Studio log for HTTP errors from the website origin.
  4. Try publishing a tiny test place before debugging a large one.

Play testing

  • Play Solo runs a local client/server in one process. It is the fastest loop, but it does not test replication.
  • Local server with two clients tests replication, remotes, and PlayerAdded/CharacterAdded ordering.
  • Web client tests the browser path, including the arbiter WebSocket bridge.

Always test a ported place with at least one real client/server split before publishing.

Plugins

Core plugin APIs work, but the modern plugin surface is incomplete. If a plugin depends on:

  • PluginManager / modern plugin management,
  • marketplace plugin distribution,
  • AssetService:LoadAsset,
  • newer Studio-only services,

it may not load or may fail partway.

For tooling, prefer a local plugin that uses the core Plugin, Selection, ChangeHistoryService, and StudioService-style APIs, and keep the plugin small.

Studio-only classes

A number of classes are Studio-only or platform-only and are not intended for game scripts. The API reference marks classes that exist only in modern Roblox as Not yet; some of those are Studio APIs that have no runtime effect. Check the class page before assuming a missing class is a gameplay blocker.
